Our History

1881:
Formed as partnership of Buell and Crockett.

Mid 1930's:
Turner, Weaver and Associates purchased agency.

1972:
Cook, Treadwell and Harry (CTH) acquired agency.

1977:
Coker Aviation Insurance, owned by CTH, merged with Turner, Weaver agency under the name Cook, Treadwell and Harry of Nashville to become the 13th largest brokerage firm in the United States.

1981:
Tom Chappell and Charles Smith, two senior employees of CTH of Nashville, purchased the agency and renamed it Chappell, Smith and Associates, Inc.

1985:
Chappell, Smith & Associates opened an office in Murfreesboro, TN

1990's:
Under the name of CS&A Aviation Insurance, Inc., the agency grew to be one of the most respected aviation specialty insurance companies in the country. Additionally it added an aviation office in Metro Atlanta, GA.

1996:
Chappell, Smith & Associates opened an agency in Metro Atlanta, GA

2000:
Team Concept implemented. Property and Casualty as well as Employee Benefits staff worked together with the Aviation producers to manage a total insurance package for large clients.

2001:
Metro Atlanta offices relocated to accommodate tremendous growth.

2002 - 2004:
Risk Management, Loss Control and Consulting services added to help clients reduce risks and increase safety while positively impacting their bottom line.

Oct 2004:
Publication of the first issue of our in-house magazine, Aviation Insurance & Risk Management.

Jan 2005:
Steve Lee and Todd Lee joined the Chappell, Smith & Associates team, further enhancing an already experienced Commercial lines department.

April 2005:
Shoney's Franchisee Insurance Program implemented in order to offer new and established franchisee's the broadest coverage with competitive pricing.

Today:
Chappell, Smith and Associates, Inc. is on a fast growth track with traditional product centers, such as Commercial Property and Casualty insurance, Life insurance and Employee Benefits insurance, as well as its specialty line of Aviation insurance. The agency and its dedicated staff of specialists are enthusiastic about the future of Chappell, Smith and Associates, Inc.
